Joint Moroccan-American “African Lion 2021” exercises from June 7 to 18 (Pillars of the Royal Armed Forces General War)
Rabat – On the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, joint Moroccan-American exercises will be organized from June 7 to 18, 2021 in the Acadair, Tefelt, Tantan, Al-Mahbas Morocco sahara, Tafarout, Ben Greer and Quneitra regions, with the participation of thousands of multinational armies and a very large number of ground, air and naval equipment.
In addition to the United States of America and the Kingdom of Morocco, the 17th edition of the exercise will see the participation of Britain, Brazil, Canada, Tunisia, Senegal, the Netherlands and Italy, as well as NATO and military observers from about 30 countries representing Africa, Europe and America, according to a report by the Royal Armed Forces General Warfare Staff.
The source added that this exercise, which is considered one of the most important joint exercises in the world, has several objectives, including: enhancing the maneuvering capabilities of the participating units; enhancing interoperability among participants in the planning and implementation of joint operations within the alliance; mastering tactics, techniques and procedures; developing cyber defence skills; training the air component in combat operations, support and air refueling; strengthening cooperation in maritime security and conducting naval exercises in maritime tactics and conventional warfare; and finally;Humanitarian activities.
The same source highlighted that in addition to training and simulation in the field of command activities as well as training in counter-violent terrorist organizations, version 17 of “African Lion 2021” will include exercises for ground, air and naval forces, as well as biological, radiological, nuclear and chemical cleansing exercises.
On the other hand, as part of parallel humanitarian activities, a field surgical medical hospital will be deployed in Imlan (Tavrout), where medical and surgical services will be provided to the local population in the region, by medical teams of doctors and nurses from the Royal Armed Forces and the U.S. military.
As a joint multinational exercise, The African Lion 2021 is one of the main and major exercises organized and managed by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in partnership with the Royal Armed Forces, with the aim of enhancing the level of cooperation and training, increasing interoperability as well as enhancing the exchange of expertise and knowledge among different military components in order to enable them to achieve their full operational capability.
