On Saturday, February 13, the U.S. Senate acquitted former President Donald j. Trump in his second impeachment trial on charges of inciting the events at the Capitol on January 6.
The vote was 57 to 43 in favour of the acquittal, 10 votes lower than the 67 votes required for conviction, or a two-thirds majority.
Seven of the 50 Republican senators joined the house democrats in favor of the conviction.
Following the verdict, Trump welcomed his acquittal on charges of inciting rebellion, saying his political movement had “just begun.”
“Our historic, national and beautiful movement to make the United States great again has just begun,” he said in a statement.
“In the coming months, I have a lot to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our wonderful journey together to bring american greatness to our people as a whole,” he said.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us, and soon we will rise up with a vision for a bright, bright and limitless American future,” he said.
